Samantabhadra Bodhisattva is one of the four great Bodhisattvas in Chinese Buddhism, symbolizing the virtue of reason and the virtue of conduct. It corresponds to Manjusri Bodhisattva, who symbolizes the virtue of wisdom and the virtue of righteousness. Both are the left and right attendants of Sakyamuni Buddha. Bodhisattva Samantabhadra is renowned for his ";great conduct". His ten great vows - paying homage to all Buddhas, praising the Tathagata, making extensive offerings, repenting of karmic obstacles, rejoicing in merits, inviting the Dharma wheel to be turned, inviting the Buddha to remain in the world, always following the Buddha's teachings, constantly obeying sentient beings, and dedicating merits to all - have pointed out the complete path for practitioners from the initial aspiration to attainment. He holds a ruyi in his hand, symbolizing the good wishes of all beings. Riding a white elephant, one's resolve and determination are evident. Bodhisattva Samantabhadra taught the world: Having ideals but not taking action is ultimately like a mirage. Great undertakings begin with every solid step taken underfoot. Only by implementing compassion and wisdom in daily practice can one achieve perfect enlightenment.
